Not growing your business quite as quickly as you'd like it to? Do you know what to check if your business is not growing fast enough?
How do you start to really work out what you should be working on? What you should be focusing on, in order to grow your business? That's a big question.
What to Check if Business is Not Growing
Oftentimes, if your business is not growing fast enough, you can start getting yourself involved in lots of different activities. It's almost that you start to throw spaghetti against a wall and just start to hope that it will actually stick.
Here's what I'd like you to do instead.
If your business is not growing fast enough, I want you to take a look at your calendar. You see, cash flow and growth follows your calendar.
When my business isn't growing in the way that I want to, I have to take a step back and say, "Wow. Have I got stuck back in the weeds of delivery?" That can happen in any business. Have you got distracted with something else? What is happening?
What to Look at if Your Business Isn't Growing Fast Enough
Look at your calendars and ask yourself, "Where are you spending your time?"
If you don't have time blocked on your calendar for what I call business development activities, then after a while, you're going to start to see the growth of your business stagnating or even declining.
Depending on where you're at in your business, that cycle can take anything up to 90 days for you to even see it. Particularly, if you're in a business where you do have a lot of delivery to focus on.
When Things Aren't Happening as Quickly as You'd Like
Next time you start to panic that things aren't happening as quickly as you'd like them to, go back to your calendar. Look at what activities are on there that are active business development activities.
How many have you been engaged in? How many hours are dedicated to it on your calendar? If there's not enough, you know what to do. You've got to carve out time for those activities to happen.
The next thing is you might start to say, "Well, it's really tricky because I'm working with my clients. I feel like I'm working a lot of hours."
The Business Development Activities
The business development activities should always take a priority in your week. First thing Monday morning, you do not need to be seeing your clients. Save that time for you. If your days are really busy and long, dedicate one hour a day when you can.
It will give you 20 hours of business development every single month.
