Are you growing your business passively or proactively? What does proactive business growth look like?

Vanessa Shaw here, your Business Growth Mentor with the answers to your questions regarding growing your small business.

Proactive Business Growth vs Passive Approach

I have spoken with hundreds of business owners about growing their business. 90% of them admit that they’ve had a passive approach. They say the growth of their business kind of happens organically. It's grown by word of mouth. They’ve had great referrals.

When I ask them what does it take to grow their business more proactively, they have no direct answers. They really don't know what that looks like.

The reality is - if you have a great product, or you're confident about the results that you can deliver for people, and you can talk about your business in a clear and compelling way, you will be able to get your business off the ground.

It is how I got my own business off the ground as well.
I didn't have the most sophisticated marketing, tactics, and strategies that we use today. Had no clue about the best way to approach sales. My passion and my desire to help people was enough to get me to that first six figures.

But beyond that, my approach needed to change. I had to ask myself what would a more proactive business growth look like?

Key Things for Proactive Business Growth

There are a couple of really key things.
First and foremost it is about you to start designing your business and your marketing the way that it starts to attract clients to you.

  • Getting out from behind the desk
  • Attending industry conferences
  • Attending local networking events

You will have to do those activities unless you have mastered the art of attracting clients online. Then you can sit behind your desk because you figured out the ninja tactics of how to get Facebook and funnels working for you.

It's about really deciding that you are going to be in the driver’s seat of your business and focusing on proactive business growth.

That means you have to start:

  • Setting goals for your business
  • Setting targets for your business
  • Have metrics in place so you can measure results
  • Have measures in place that you can see when you're making progress and when you're not making progress - and be able to adjust accordingly

Proactive Business Growth Strategy

You may also need to start seeking some help. If you have not been in that place of your business you are trying to get to, you may not know the next step to take. You may have ideas what to do but may not have the experience to know which ideas to implement and how.

I always seek the help of coaches and mentors that are ahead of me in the game that I want to be playing. I am always surrounding myself with the peer group that is also seeking success.

So, the question for you to ponder is:

What are some of the things you could start doing today to start your proactive business growth, rather than just sitting back and waiting for business to come to you?
