We've been talking about building and growing your rockstar team. I want to share with you a very quick tip that honesty, today, I've learned through experience.
Somebody had shared this with me previously. However, I honestly believe that we have to go through the school of hard knocks to know that it really was a great tip. I probably should have paid better attention when I heard it the first time.
This tip is all about hiring for attitude, not skillset.
Hiring for Attitude, Not Skill
But really, what does that mean?
Well, the truth is, and I found this through the school of hard knocks, is that skills can be trained. They're very learnable. I've also discovered that a great attitude is very difficult to train. People seem to either have it or they don't. It's either on or it's off.
I'm always looking for that gung-ho attitude, that positive mindset. And frankly, the attitude of, 'Here are my ideas of how I can help you, Vanessa. Here are my ways that I can take more things off your plate. Here are my creative solutions for how we can solve this problem.'
A Problem Attitude
I never appreciate a problem attitude or an attitude of 'What do you want me to do next?' If we've got a problem, don't present the problem to me without a solution. It's really that attitude of can-do, positivity, growth mindset, and an attitude of service as well.
I have found that when we've got that attitude, it's so easy to develop skillsets behind that.
That's my number two tip for you around growing your business - hire first for attitude, then look at skills.
