Here's the view today from my temporary office in Mykonos. We're back at one our favorite boutique hotels in Greece for some wonderful days of rest and relaxation. When I first started out in business in 2006, although I lacked clarity on many things, there were a couple of aspects of my business that I was super clear on and on which I wasn't prepared to negotiate.
First, my business had to make a positive difference to people's lives.
Second, I wanted the freedom to work from home and around my kids schedules who were 6 and 11 then.
Third, my business had to generate income that would make a difference to our own lifestyle. If not, what was the point of me putting in all the hours to build my business if it was only going to cause stress at home and not give us some of the rewards that extra income brings?
“Held in the palms of thousands of disgruntled people over the centuries have been ideas worth millions – if they only had taken the first step and then followed through.” – Robert M. Hayes
6 years later I still remain true to these 3 principles. Setting up a virtual or home-based business enabled me to move from Europe to the USA in 2012 and hardly skip a beat.
Here I am enjoying 6 weeks in Europe, mixing work (honestly, I love what I do so much that calling it work seems unfair!) with plenty of down time and time to connect with family and friends back home. One of the projects of the European trip is to complete our new brand and website which you'll get to see really soon.
