How do you handle clients that say they only want to work with you, directly, not your team? How to get clients working with your team?

When you start your service-based business, you are often the person wearing all the hats. You are the receptionist, the admin, you are doing the invoicing and working with the clients.

When clients come in, they have the expectation that they are going to be working with you.

As your business start to grow and scale, you have to grow your business beyond you and your expertise. Train or teach other people to take on responsibilities and service your clients. Get clients working with your team, otherwise, you burn out and you won't be able to scale your business.

How to get clients working with your team?

One of our clients shared with us that she got an inquiry from somebody that wanted to work with her last year. For whatever reason, they chose not to move forward then. Now, she's was ready to work with her. The minute she found out that she would not be working with my client directly, she was not interested to move forward at all.

How do we handle that?

3 Things to Do to Get Clients Working with Your Team

  1. Get clear on your own mindset

There may be a fear if someone else can really do the work as well as we can. See if you have fears and doubts around that.

      2. Position your team member as the perfect person to work with

Find things your team member does that you don’t do! What are those differences? What does this person do exceptionally well that you're not necessarily doing as well? Figure out exactly what that is. And then market it well to your client. Explain why you choose this team member to work with them!

       3. Smooth over the transition

First of all, acknowledge that they were expecting to work with you. Then explain that you will check in with them in a week or two to see how everything is going.

With these three steps, I can guarantee that your client is going to be satisfied and well served.
